Brave New Work – the future of business school graduates

Thank you all for participating in the Homecoming Day 2018 and hope to see you all again in the Homecoming Day 2020!

All the photos and videos, and some of the parallel sessions presentations of the Homecoming Day 2018 are now available in the “Photos” section. Please see the navigation bar above.

Homecoming Day is the biggest alumni event of the School of Business. The event offers inspiring discussions on current topics as well as a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends. Homecoming Day 2018 will take place on Friday August 31, 2018 in the Main Building of Aalto University School of Business.

The theme of the day is “Brave New Work – the future of business school graduates” and the keynote speech (in English) will be given by our School’s alumnus Casper von Koskull, CEO and President of Nordea. The main seminar also includes an alumni panel discussion (in Finnish) led by Professor Vesa Puttonen. The panelists, in addition to Casper von Koskull, comprise of Taavi Heikkilä (Chairman and CEO of SOK Corporation), Heikki Malinen (President and CEO of Posti), Kristiina Mäkelä (Provost of Aalto University) and Marianne Vikkula (Previous CEO of Slush).

The theme “Brave New Work” can be viewed from many different angles. In the parallel sessions hosted by our School’s Departments, the future of business school graduates will be discussed among others through the following questions:

  • How to thrive in the fourth industrial revolution?
  • How will e.g. automation, robotics, AI and financial technology affect the nature and content of work?
  • How will leadership, management and business education need to adapt?
  • Will technological progress lead to mass unemployment and drastic wage decline?
  • Which new opportunities will be created by the upcoming changes?

Come to bid farewell to the School of Business building in Töölö!

A new Main building for the School of Business will be built in Otaniemi, where all school’s operations will move by next year. At the end of the Homecoming Day seminar, Dean Ingmar Björkman will share the latest news and future outlook of the School of Business. At the Homecoming Day you will have an opportunity to take a closer look at the new School of Business building and can bid your farewell to the old Main building in Töölö.

At the end of the seminar day, the Alumnus/a of the Year will also be announced and he/she will give a speech. You can continue the evening with your fellow alumni by enjoying a dinner and dancing to the band, Bolton Avenue Big Band.

Ticket sales will begin in March. Act fast as spaces are limited!

All School of Business alumni registered in AlumniNET will receive a message on the event during the spring. If you are a Schoool of Business alumnus/a, but have not received the information, please contact alumni-biz@aalto.fi.

The previous Homecoming Day events were organized in years 2014 and 2016. Photos and videos of the previous events can be found here.
